With the help of this post, I’ve successfully installed iCloud on my Windows XP machine. Here’s how.

I’m including instructions on how to do this yourself. However, if you’d rather just skip straight to the install, I’m including both the altered iCloud.msi and iCloud64.msi files for download at the bottom of this post.

First off, you’ll need the iCloud Windows control panel. Next, you’ll need a file archiver; I prefer 7-Zip. Lastly, you’ll need Orca MSI Editor.

  1. Download all programs. Install 7-Zip and Orca MSI Editor. Don’t install iCloud just yet.
  2. Using 7-Zip, extract the file contents of iCloudSetup.exe You should see a file called “iCloud.msi” and one called “iCloud64.msi”, among many others.
  3. Using Orca MSI Editor, open either iCloud.msi (iCloud64.msi).
  4. In the editor window, you’ll see LaunchCondition in the left-hand column. Right now, it says “VersionNT = 600”. You want it to read “VersionNT = 200”. Make that change, and then save the file.
  5. Now, when you open iCloud.msi (or iCloud64.msi), you should be able to complete the install! If you need instructions, they’re on the Apple website.

  1. Clarinerd, know nothing about any of this stuff. Just bought iPad2, would like icloud working on pc with iPad but have unupgradable windows xp pc with outlook 03. Are you saying if I download your altered icloud.msi, the iCloudxp.msi, this will work on my xp. Hope this to be true.
    Yours sincerely,

    1. Hi there! I have Outlook 2007 on my computer, and just finished testing. I was able to alter/create/delete calendar items, I successfully sent emails to a few accounts, and I was able to alter/create/delete contacts.

  2. If I download your iCloudxp.msi on to my xp pc with outlook 03 will iCloud work or do I need outlook 07 or earlier? Or is there another requirements my xp needs? It’s an unupgradable one. Be grateful for any help.
    Yours sincerely,

      1. Ah, thank you Sharon for getting in touch. The reason I talk about outlook is as I say am total ignorant to all this stuff and think read somewhere that you need outlook 07 or later. If that be the case another head ach for me. I downloaded your version of iCloud but couldn’t get it installed. Said didn’t have system requirements. Please help with whatever you can no matter how small may seem to you.
        Yours sincerely,
Ps. Am impressed with all have read on you. (please don’t get me wrong). Love the site.

        1. Everything I’ve read says Outlook 2007 as well. Did you see my comment from above? I was able to get it to run with Outlook 2007 on XP, so if you upgrade, it should work. Sorry about that. Are you dead-set on using Outlook? I’m wondering if there’s some options for using Mozilla products. If I can find out anything more, I’ll update here. 🙂

          1. Well not dead set on outlook just want iCloud to work on xp if there’s a way round outlook using Mozilla or whatever especially if it’s free and easy to use if you get my meaning, will go with. Would like easy iCloud installation, expense free. Again be so grateful Sharon.

  3. Okay, I downloaded the link, updated my Itunes to the newest ver. and I still get this message. ” icloud control panel requires apple mobile device support 4 to be installed. Apple mobile device support is included with itunes 10.5 or later, which you can download for free at http://www.apple.com/itunes
    What could be the problem?

    1. I’m not sure why that message would be popping up, unless you should be trying the other *.msi file instead of the one you used just now. Here’s what I would do: double-check your iTunes version. Then, make sure you’ve done a complete restart. Give it one more try. If you get the same error message, come back here and grab the other *.msi file (if you’re using iCloudXP.msi, come get iCloudXP64.msi, and vice-versa). I’m sorry, I don’t know much more than that about the error you’re seeing. If you still get the error message, I recommend visiting the original page where I got this information (it’s the “this post” link at the top of this page). Best of luck. 🙂

  4. Sharon got iCloud on my xp and got outlook 07 down too and all works well except for photostream can’t check it seem’s to be greyed out any ideas would be grateful.

  5. I can’t get past the first step. The download for iCloud on Apples’s website is for Windows v1.1 so I get an error message that my system needs to be updated. Is there another place to get a download that will work with Windows XP?

  6. I can get it installed and see it in the Control Panel but it won’t let me sign in with my AppleID (I’ve verified that my AppleID is working). I get an error message saying: iCloud has enountered a problem and needs to close, etc. Any ideas of what might have gone wrong??

  7. I have used another site to get it intalled on my XP machine however, the only reason i wanted it was to add photos to my photostream but that option is greyed out. I see that you were going to research that, have you had any luck?

  8. I’m just using the iCloud.com web page and I can do a lot with my windows XP, I have Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find my iPhone & iWork.
I do not have Music which would be nice.
Would your way and installing the icloud control panel work better?

    1. I think it’s a matter of preference. I also use the web site, however I have a Mac at home (I sync items such as bookmarks with Safari for XP so that I always have my info at work when I’m away from my Mac). I think the music synchronization is purely an iTunes item.

If you have Outlook, you would automatically have your email, calendar and contacts integrated right in without the need to use icloud.com. If you prefer that, I’d recommend trying this. However, please note that I’ve not had any luck with Photostream. This seems to be a common issue, and I’m still not sure why it won’t work.

  9. You know, you’re going to be nominated for the Noble Prize for posting this solution.
    thanks! Thanks an iGazillion !

  10. I was successful in installing iCloudXP.msi on one of my two Dell machines, the one I keep at home. When I tried installing it on my Office Dell (the one I really need it on), the installation program gave me the following message: “The installer encountered errors before iCloud Control Panel could be configured. . . .Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.”
    Any suggestions?

    1. I would recommend restarting your computer, especially if it’s been a long time since you’ve done so. This seems to reset some internal settings that for some reason hinder certain processes like saving files and installing apps. Next, I would make sure you’ve got the correct version of the iCloud EXE file from this web site (there are two). Best of luck. 🙂

      1. Tried restarting the computer. No luck. Please note that my home computer, the one your solution worked on, is not the same model as the one in the office, which is giving me this problem.

        1. I think at this point I would go to the original source. If you look in my post, you’ll see I noted the origin of this information. That writer may have some more insight into this. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. 🙁

  11. Sharon,
I downloaded the file using the link for the control panel at the top of your site. I followed your instructions and installed iCloud. The instructions from to installation told me to use the windows control panel to change settings and to run iCloud. When I do that I receive the following iCloud: iCloud.exe – Application Error:

“The instruction at “0x010535a5 referenced memory at 0x000000004. The memory could not be “read”.

I tried this three times and received the same error. I then downloaded your version from https://clarinerd.com/download/iCloudXP.zip. Upon running it I was told that a newer version was already installed on my computer.

    Any ideas on this problem?

    1. You can use a third party app to remove anything that’s making your computer think that software is installed, that is if you don’t see it listed in your Programs control panel. Other than that, I would go to the original source. If you look in my post, you’ll see I noted the origin of this information. That writer may have some more insight into this. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. 🙁

  12. I tried you fix. It does not work on my XP. I used 7zip to extract the files and substituted the .msi with yours. When I run it. It says “windows has encountered an error and your system has not changed”. So after that, nothing installs.

    1. Hi there. Sorry for the late reply. Please be sure to check your system before you start. Once you’re sure you’re good to go, check that you’re using the correct .msi file. If you need more information, I’ve linked to the original post from where I gathered this information.

  13. Thank you very much for this post and all the help. My only issue is the photostream option being greyed out. Any luck with figuring out the workaround for this? Thank you again.

    1. Hi there. I’ve been unable to find any workarounds for this. I’m not sure what else can be done; hopefully my searches concerning this issue will be fruitful one day. If they are, I’ll be sure to post an update.

  14. Can you get the icloud version 2 to work with the xp computer. I tried to make the same modifications and it didn’t work It did work with the version 1 icloud though

  15. Please can you help? I downloaded the hacked msi file for 32bit and installed it as you and others have suggested, but when I click on the control panel icon I get an error message saying theirs something wrong with the file path?? Can you suggest anything? I have tried repairing it etc but still nothing, This is for icloud on xp. Thanks

    1. I wish I knew more about this. As of now, I would recommend visiting the original post, mentioned at the beginning of the article or by clicking here.

  16. Thanks Sharon I will give it a try. So far I am not having much luck. I have the website (iCloud) saved in which I can sign into but doesn’t give me many options i.e. saving photos elsewhere. Thanks for the suggestion

    1. Hi, Kevin. It has been a while, but I wanted to check in with you to see if you had any luck. Please let me know. Thanks!
